Project DetailsThis project consists of a 10 ft wide concrete trail for pedestrian and bicyclists extending from 23rd Street to 11th Street along the abandoned BNSF railroad corridor located just west of Haskell Avenue. Total length of this trail is approximately 8,100 linear feet.  Project includes HAWK signals at 11th and 19th St. crossings, a raised crosswalk at the 15th St. crossing and a speed hump adjacent to the 13th St. crossing.  A pedestrian bridge is being installed over Burrough’s Creek to connect Parnell Park.

 

Project Schedule:  Construction is anticipated to begin late September, shortly after the contract is signed.   The project has a schedule of 75 working days and depending on weather conditions should be complete by January 2010.  

 

Project Funding:  This project is part of the 2009 KDOT Transportation Enhancement Program.  The funding is 60%/40% (KDOT/City) split with a KDOT maximum participation of $500,000.  The city is responsible for 100% of the costs exceeding a total project cost of $833,333.33.

 

The low bid amount of $591,632.97 will be split $354,979.78 (KDOT) and $236,653.19 (City).

 

Action Request:  Approve bid from R.D. Johnson for Project PW0829, Burroughs Creek Rail Trail in the amount of $591,632.97 contingent on KDOT approval and provided the contractor can meet the terms established in the contract documents.
