RE:               Bid date for fencing at the Youth Sports Complex

Please include the following item on the City Commission agenda for consideration at the September 8th, 2009 meeting:

Set a bid opening date of September 22, 2009, for Fencing at the Youth Sports Complex

Project Description

The City of Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department requests bidding for backstop and foul line fence installation for 4 new youth baseball / softball fields at the Youth Sports Complex (complex map). These fields will allow the Department to better serve the youth of the community by creating more space for practice and game activities. The fencing is the final element necessary to prepare the fields for play by the spring of 2010.

Advertise for bids:    September 9, 2009

Open bids:              September 22, 2009

Award Contract:       September 29, 2009

Notice to Proceed:    November 9, 2009

Project Completion:  December 1, 2009

Project Funding

$15,000 will be donated by the Douglas County Amateur Baseball Association. The remainder will come from the Recreation Operations budget, backed by the revenue collected from taking over the DCABA league in 2009.

Action Request

The City of Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department staff requests approval from the City Commission to set a bid date of September 22nd, 2009, for the fencing project at the Youth Sports Complex.
