CALGON CARBON – UTILITIES DEPARTMENT – #B09050
Utilities Department requested bids for an estimated 90 tons of Calgon Carbon. The Clinton Plant has gone through bench testing this product and recently purchased it for plant use. It has shown to reduce Geosmin related taste and odors, increase Total Organic Carbon reduction and has help reduce total Trihalomethans to the point we are not jeopardizing our quarterly compliance numbers. Our current low Atrizine numbers suggest that increased levels of carbon help reduce this pesticide in our tap water. We will also be able to feed less Calgon to achieve the same as our old carbon.
The 90 tons we are requesting will last until the end of this year and we are including this product on the 2010 chemical bid in November.
MWV Specialties, the low bid, did not bid the product required in the specifications. They bid Aqua Nuchar, their own product which has not been tested by the City.
This purchase was approved in the 2009 budgeting process.
