Please include the following item on the City Commission consent agenda for consideration at the August 25, 2009 meeting:
Description: Purchase of Mobile Data Computers.
Ten of the Lawrence Police Department’s mobile data computers need to be replaced. This request is for the purchase of five Motorola MW 810 Mobile Data Computers. The purchase would come from Topeka FM who is a sole source vendor through State of Kansas contract #28440 for a total cost of $26,469.00.
Details: Three of the Mobile Data Computers were installed in 2003, one was in 2004 and six were in 2005. All of these mobile data computers have passed the city’s expected lifespan of three years for this type of equipment. Numerous recent hardware failures indicate the computer workstations are becoming increasingly unreliable.
Funding. The necessary funds to cover the costs of replacing the mobile data computer workstations were obtained by funds received from an accident settlement. The accident occurred in 2008 and the funds were encumbered in 2008.
Action Request. Police Department staff requests approval from the City Commission to authorize the purchase of five Motorola MW 810 Mobile Data Computers from Topeka FM as a sole source vendor through State of Kansas Contract #28440 for a total cost of $26, 469.00.
