Summer youth baseball/softball coming to a close

The Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department’s Youth Sports summer youth baseball/softball programs are heading into the home stretch. With the addition of the Douglas County Amateur Baseball Association leagues, the department saw an increase of 36 participating teams, resulting in 250 more games with more than 1,600 kids participating in Parks and Recreation sponsored leagues. The department also is finishing its 6th year of co-sponsoring the Lawrence Girls Fast-Pitch Association. The LGFPA provides more competitive leagues for girls 8 through 16 years of age. The association is looking to have Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department to administer the program in 2010. In 2009, there were 16 teams with more than 300 girls participating in the leagues. Please see the attached report for photos of some of the action.
