Dear Pastor Teske:
The Lawrence City Commission will convene in the City Commission Chambers, 1st Floor, City Hall, 6 East 6th Street, Lawrence, Kansas on June 23, 2009 at 6:35 p.m., or as soon thereafter as the matter can be heard, for the purpose of conducting a public hearing regarding a request for a distance restriction waiver. Steve Mason, on behalf of the Americana Music Festival, is requesting a waiver of the distance restriction in the City Code that prohibits the sale or serving of alcoholic liquor within 400 feet from a school (K through Grade 12) or church. The Americana Music Festival is applying for a temporary alcoholic beverage permit and is planning to sell beer and food at their event at South Park on July 18, 2009 from Noon to 10 pm. A copy of the information received from Mr. Mason is attached. Pursuant to City Code, all schools and churches within 400 feet of the proposed location are required to receive written notice of the public hearing date at least 30 days prior to the public hearing. Your church is the only church or school within 400 feet of the event.
