(Sales Tax Infrastructure Improvement Program) – City Bid No. B09032

                   June 2, 2009 Consent Agenda Item – Award Contract

 

Please include the following item on the City Commission consent agenda for consideration at the June 2, 2009 meeting:

 

Project Description/Details.  The project includes the removal and replacement of curb and gutter sections, milling existing pavement, patching deteriorated areas, and placing a 2-inch asphalt overlay to restore structural capacity, proper drainage, and ride quality to the pavement.  Also, traffic safety related geometric improvements to the intersection at Avalon Rd to add a left turn lane are also included in this project.  Single lane and street closures with detours are expected to occur on this project.  This is the first project to use sales tax funds.

 

Project History.  The city’s annual pavement maintenance program was reviewed and approved by City Commission on January 27, 2009.  Of the various program projects, the 2009 Crack Sealing Program was bid on March 3, 2009, the 2009 Curb and Gutter Replacement Program was bid on March 24, 2009, 2009 Overlay Program Phase 1 was bid on April 7, 2009, the 2008 Microsurfacing Program contract was extended with the 2009 Microsurfacing Program street locations, KLINK Overlay of W 23rd St from Iowa to Kentucky Ct and the 2009 Overlay Program Phases 2 and 3 are also planned for this construction season as presented at the January 27, 2009 City Commission Meeting.

 

Project Funding.  The pavement maintenance program is funded from several sources including the general fund, gas tax funds, sales tax revenue and sales tax reserve, and capital improvement reserve accounts.  This contract was included in the 2009 Street Maintenance Program for curb and mill and overlay repair budgeted at $750,000.00 to be paid from the general and sales tax revenue funds.
