Fire Medical North Lawrence & Grant Township Response Plan
North 2nd Construction (2009-2010)
PLAN
During peak traffic time emergency responses to North Lawrence & Grant Township will be enhanced with additional response units assigned to approach from two directions. The assigned units will approach from the South (Kansas River Bridge) and the North (I-70) with the types of unit’s dependent upon the type of dispatched incident and the current system status. The duty shift commander may at anytime request additional units respond from either the north or south dependent upon the incident information.
Peak traffic times are expected to be occurring during 0700-0900 and 1700-1900 hours and will be evaluated periodically for necessary adjustments.
Water supplies to North Lawrence will not be interrupted but in the event of unexpected water disruption all structural fires will be supplemented with a “countywide tender response”. The water wells at the Lawrence Municipal Airport will be the primary source of water refill (non-potable). Additional plans will be implemented based on the circumstances.
Incidents that occur in the area of 2nd and Locust/Elm may require stopping and/or re-routing all traffic to utilize the I-70 and McDonald drive corridor.
When traffic is returned to one lane Northbound and one lane Southbound traffic flows will be evaluated and the tentative plan is to return to a normal response configuration.
RECCOMENDATION
A web based camera system could be installed on city hall to assist in monitoring the traffic conditions and assist in response coordination issues.
