Proclamation

Lawrence, Kansas

 

 

WHEREAS:       Public works infrastructure, facilities, and services are of vital importance to the health, safety, and well being of the citizens of Lawrence; and

 

WHEREAS:       Such facilities and services could not be provided without the dedicated efforts of public works professionals, engineers, and administrators representing local government; and

 

WHEREAS:       These individuals are responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the transportation, storm sewer, and refuse disposal systems, fleet, public buildings, and other structures and facilities essential to serve our citizens; and

 

WHEREAS:       It is in the public interest for citizens and civic leaders to gain knowledge of the public works needs and programs of their community; and

 

WHEREAS:       Each year, National Public Works Week recognizes the contributions of public works professionals and increases awareness and understanding of the importance of public infrastructure;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Chestnut, Mayor of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, do hereby proclaim May 17 - 23, 2009 to be

 

“PUBLIC WORKS WEEK”
