RECYCLING AND TRASH CONTAINERS
Public Works Solid Waste requests approval for the purchase of roll-off containers for trash in the total amount of $18,006. The purchase includes:
4 40 cubic yard containers ($4,273.00 each)
Freight ($914.00 for full load of four)
The containers are needed to provide construction and demolition service to customers. The containers are generally purchased from one of three vendors in the area since these vendors provide containers of good quality that meet our specifications, and are able to provide a lower cost per container because of short shipping distances. Freight costs are a significant component of container purchases. In addition, standardization is more efficient for maintenance operations.
Going out for bids for containers is almost impossible at this time due to the rapidly fluctuating cost of steel and shipping. Therefore most vendors will not hold their prices. Presently, it is necessary to contact vendors for current prices. The vendor that provided the lowest quote will hold his price for three weeks.
