Please include the following information on the consent agenda for the City Commission meeting of April 7, 2009
Background
The Solid Waste Division of the Public Works Department replaces refuse handling vehicles on a rotational basis. These replacements are scheduled by life cycle cost analysis. Each vehicle is evaluated for extended service before a recommendation to is made replace. All of the vehicles requested have reached the end of their life cycle. Retaining these vehicles will significantly increase maintenance costs.
I have attached the bid request forms which include the vehicle appropriateness surveys.
Project Status / Details: Specifications have been written for replacement vehicles. We need to have the bids awarded and the vehicles placed in the manufacturer order banks with build dates assigned as early as possible. Trucks built after January 1 will be subject to emission surcharges.
Project Funding: These vehicle purchases were approved in the 2009 budget process. Each bid request form is specific to the appropriate budget line.
Recommendation Central Maintenance staff request approval from the City Commission to set a bid opening date of April 28, 2009 for the purchase of these vehicles.
