Project No. PW0905 – 2009 Curb and Gutter Replacement Program – City Bid No. B09019 |
|
March 10, 2009 Consent Agenda Item – Set Bid Date of March 24, 2009 |
Please include the following item on the City Commission consent agenda for consideration at the March 10, 2009 meeting:
Project Description. This curb and gutter project includes a number of City residential and collector streets. The street curb and gutter sections to be removed and replaced are determined to be in generally poor condition and the resulting poor drainage and stabilization characteristics have resulted in progressed deterioration of the adjacent street pavement. An effective curb and gutter removal and replacement program will reestablish desired drainage characteristics to a street, provide edge of pavement structural support, and reduce long-term maintenance costs.
Project History. The city’s annual pavement maintenance program was reviewed and approved by City Commission on January 27, 2009. Of the various program projects, the 2009 Crack Sealing Program was bid on March 3, 2009, W 9th St Tennessee to Iowa Sales Tax Program Rehabilitation Project, KLINK Overlay of W 23rd St from Iowa to Kentucky Ct, 2009 Overlay Program Phases 1, 2, and 3, and the 2009 Microsurfacing Program are also planned for this construction season as presented at the January 27, 2009 City Commission Meeting.
Project Details. The project includes the removal and replacement of curb and gutter sections, asphalt patching adjacent to the new curb, and some reinforced concrete intersections to improve drainage on existing City streets (see attached location map).
Project Funding. The pavement maintenance program is funded from several sources including the general fund, gas tax funds, sales tax and sales tax reserve, and capital improvement reserve accounts. This contract was included in the 2009 Street Maintenance Program for curb repair budgeted at $550,000.00 to be paid from the general and gas tax funds. The contract includes an asphalt index which may require change order(s) based on the increases/decreases in asphalt oil pricing.
Action Request. Set Bid Date of March 24, 2009 for the 2009 Curb and Gutter Replacement Program - Project No. PW0905.
