RE:               Sport 2 Sport Complex Lease Agreement  

In May of 2008 the City of Lawrence entered into an agreement to sublease the two baseball/softball diamonds at the Sport 2 Sport Complex, 5200 Clinton Parkway, from USD 497 who had leased the fields from Sport 2 Sport One L.L.C.  The Parks and Recreation Department was able to use the fields four days a week from May 12, 2008 through August 1, 2008 in exchange for providing all daily and scheduled maintance at the complex for both parties.

The Parks and Recreation Department would once again like to partner with the School District to use these fields.  However, the School District has asked that the City split the cost of leasing the fields with each party taking responsibility for their own maintenance.  The City’s portion of the fee would be $4,800.  The specific details are outlined in the proposed agreement which I have attached to this memo.

There have been no restrictions imposed on the number of days that we can use the facility.  We currently project needing the fields at least six days a week, primarily for girls fast pitch.   Our concessionaire would also be allowed to operate at the complex with 19.75% of the gross sales going to our department.  

In conclusion, we feel like this partnership benefits both parties involved and without it we would be hard pressed to find a suitable location for the Girls Fast Pitch League to practice and play games.
