Description:   Purchase of Patrol Mobile Data Computers

The Lawrence Police Department’s patrol car mobile data computer inventory needs to be updated.   This request is for the purchase of nineteen Motorola MW810 mobile data computers from TFM Communications Inc. as a sole source vendor through State of Kansas Contract #28440 at a total cost of $97,944.

Details:  All but a few of Lawrence Police Department’s patrol car mobile data computers have reached the end of their service life.   Many are no longer operable and are cost prohibitive to repair.  Our mobile data computers are critical communications components that enhance public safety by providing real time information to officers as they respond to calls for service. 

Funding. This purchase was identified as a highest priority Police Department infrastructure improvement requirement in late 2008 discussions on the utilization of Equipment Reserve funds for this purpose.

Action Request.  Police Department staff requests approval from the City Commission to authorize the purchase of nineteen Motorola MW810 mobile data computers from TFM Communications Inc. as a sole source vendor through State of Kansas Contract #28440 at a total cost of $97,944.
