Please include the following item on the City Commission consent agenda for consideration at the January 20, 2009 meeting:

Description:   Purchase of ACISS Case Management Software

The Lawrence Police Department investigates many different cases that span multiple days and includes many different leads before the cases can be solved.  Having a software system specifically designed to manage these very complex cases is essential in the current age of technology and evidence demands.

Details:  The ACISS system currently being used by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation and Topeka Police Department locally is specifically designed to address our need of case management.  The ACISS system is also used in many other Law Enforcement agencies throughout the Midwest from Florida to Wisconsin.  Since the ACISS System is proprietary to ACISS System, Inc., this expenditure will be from a sole source provider. 

Funding.  Due to the capabilities and applicability of the ACISS System software, the funding is appropriate for the Law Enforcement Trust Fund monies.

Action Request.  Police Department staff requests approval from the City Commission to authorize this purchase and the payment of $40,000.00 to ACISS Systems, Inc.
