RE: |
Award Bid FIRE HYDRANTS, FITTINGS AND VALVES B08087 |
Utilities Department requested bids for fire hydrants, valves and fittings. These hydrants, valves and fittings will be used for the department performed waterline replacement project, #UT0812DS. The materials for the project will be purchased from the Utilities/Non-bonded Construction fund. On November 4, 2008 the City Commission approved the purchase of 25,000 feet of pipe for this project.
Utilities Department will replace the 4 diameter waterlines and smaller that Department staff has determined to be inadequate based on the size of pipe, inability to meet fire flow capacity, water quality and reliability due to age and type of material. This was a planned purchase as part of a capital improvement project.
The successful bidders were required to supply information on the materials bid to show compliance with the bid specifications. The suppliers of the hydrants and valves met the specifications. Three of the four bidders for the tee and anchor fittings provided bids based on materials that were not included in the bid specification. However, the bid specification only included one of two materials that have been accepted by the City. Staff would prefer to evaluate bids based on both materials. For that reason staff would recommend that the bids for the tee and anchor fittings be rejected and a new bid date be set to rebid the fittings. The bid specification will be corrected to include the two materials accepted by the City A summary of the bids is included on the attached sheet.
