ORDINANCE NO. 8337

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF LAWRENCE, KANSAS, ENACTING CHAPTER 1, ARTICLE 2, SECTION 1-201.1 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF LAWRENCE, KANSAS, 2008 EDITION, AND AMENDMENTS THERETO, ENACTING ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS FOR MEMBERS OF THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF LAWRENCE.

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF LAWRENCE, KANSAS:

Section 1.  Chapter 1, Article 2, Section 1-201.1 of the Code of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, 2008 Edition, and amendments thereto, is hereby enacted as follows:

1-201.1             GOVERNING BODY: ELIGIBILITY AND QUALIFICATIONS.

                        The Mayor and each member of the Governing Body shall be a citizen of the United States, shall be at least eighteen (18) years of age and a qualified elector of the City of Lawrence, Kansas and must reside in the City limits at the time of filing for election and thereafter for the duration of their term(s).

Section 2.  If any provision, clause, sentence or paragraph of this ordinance is found to unconstitutional or is otherwise held invalid by any court of competent jurisdiction, it shall not affect the validity of any remaining parts of this ordinance.

Section 3.  This ordinance shall be effective on and after its publication as provided by law.
