Request for NO PARKING along the south side of 18th Street for 100 feet west of Missouri Street November 3, 2008 Traffic Safety Commission – Item No. 4 |
Background: On November 3, 2008, the Traffic Safety Commission heard a request from the University of Kansas to establish NO PARKING along the south side of 18th Street for 100 feet west of Missouri Street.
Danny Kaiser, representing the University of Kansas, spoke in favor of the request and noted that there had been several accidents in this area due to the narrow street and the rear-swing of KU buses as they turn into the parking lot off 18th Street. Kaiser advised that this is the only feasible route to serve the area. The adjacent property owner could not attend the meeting but had advised staff that they were not opposed to the request.
The TSC voted 8-1 recommending approval of the request. Commissioner Woods opposed the request; he felt it would set a precedent and there would be additional requests in the future.
