Subject: Public input / Oversight Committee
Dave,
I'm writing on behalf of the Campaign to Save the T to formally ask the City of
Lawrence appoint a representative of our group to the soon-to-be-appointed
Sales Tax Oversight Committee. Further, we ask the City Commission to
hold a public hearing, well publicized in advance, about the mission and
composition of this committee, and to deliberate carefully about appointments
on that basis. And we think that other community groups with an interest
in public transit should also be consulted with respect to the Oversight
Committee, including, for example, the Lawrence Association of Neighborhoods
and the League of Women Voters.
Finally, we ask that this request be formally discussed whenever the City
Commission considers possible appointments to the Sales Tax Oversight
Committee, and that you inform us in advance when this might happen.
Since we consider appointments to the Oversight Committee to be an important
aspect of the follow-up to last week's heartening election, I've also sent a
letter to the LJW (attached, co-signed by Gwen
Klingenberg and Lisa-Marie Wright) expressing our views on this subject
publicly.
Thanks Dave; all the best, take care,
David
