RE: Bid No. B08084 - Project UT0812DS 2008 Purchase of 25,000 Linear Feet of 8” Diameter PVC Pipe for Department Performed Watermain Replacement – Set Bid Date
Please include the following item on the City Commission Agenda for consideration at the October 7, 2008 meeting.
Set a Bid Date of Tuesday October 21, 2008 for Bid No. B08084; Project UT0812DS - Purchase of 25,000 Linear Feet of 8” Diameter PVC Pipe for Department Performed Watermain Replacement:
Project History/Status: Department of Utilities staff continuously evaluates the condition of the water distribution system based on mainbreaks; pipe material, diameter and age; capacity and fire protection needs. Based on these criteria, along with the criticality of the watermain within the system and the number of services affected, watermains are targeted for replacement. Replacement projects are carried out both “in house” and via design consultants and contractors such as with the recent Downtown watermain projects.
Utility Department staff have currently been targeting watermains that are 4” in diameter and smaller for priority “in house” replacement by Utility Department Distribution System staff. Watermains of this size do not meet Department criteria for fire flow capacity, and often present water quality and reliability issues due to their age and material.
Utility Department staff recently completed the replacement of 4,500 LF of undersized watermain in North Lawrence. The current projects are focused in the areas North of 9th Street and West of Rockledge; East of Barker and South of E. 15th Street; and 8 phases of work from West 19th Terrace between Ousdahl and Naismith south to West 22nd Terrace.
Project Funding: Funding for the purchase will come from the 2008 Utility Department Capital Improvement Waterline Rehabilitation and Replacement non-bonded construction fund.
Action Request: The Utilities Department is seeking approval from the City Commission to set a Bid Date of Tuesday October 21, 2008 for Bid No. B08084; Project UT0812DS - Purchase of 25,000 Linear Feet of 8” Diameter PVC Pipe for Department Performed Watermain Replacement.
