RE:	Get Downtown Sign Request

Just Like Lawrence, Inc. (JLL) has requested City Commission approval for a number of signs in the 800 block of New Hampshire related to the Get Downtown event. While final details of the requested signs are not settled, staff suggests City Commission approval of signs of community interest, contingent on staff approval of the final location, design, etc. of the signs. This item is being placed on the City Commission agenda without those final details because the 09/23/08 meeting is the last meeting before the event takes place.

JLL has requested approval for signs in the City right-of-way near the entrances to City parking lots 4 & 8 from 09/27/08 to 10/04/8, explaining the dates and times that the parking lots will be closed due to Get Downtown. JLL has also requested approval for a 3’ X 12’ banner across New Hampshire near 9^th Street from 09/26/08 to 10/04/08 promoting Get Downtown. The exact location of the banner has not been determined, and may also be contingent upon receiving permission to use utility poles for its hanging.

ACTION:      Approve, as “signs of community interest” a request from Just Like Lawrence, Inc., for the placement of signs in the City right-of-way near the entrances to City parking lots 4 & 8 from 09/27/08 to 10/04/8, explaining the dates and times that the parking lots will be closed due to Get Downtown, and a 3’ X 12’ banner across New Hampshire near 9^th Street from 09/26/08 to 10/04/08 promoting Get Downtown, contingent on final staff approval of the signs.
