There were 207 building permits issued in August 2008 compared to 313 a year ago. Despite the lower number of permits issued, permit valuation and fees collected were higher in August 2008 than in 2007:

The largest projects for the month were building additions at 1321 N. 3rd Street, valued at $4,160,251 and 4701 W 6th Street, valued at $3,838,142. These projects accounted for 59 percent of the total valuation of permits for the month.
The number of permits in most permit categories is down from the same period a year ago, including new single-family from 17 compared to 10 and remodels from 29 compared to 17. However, permits were issued for 6 duplexes this year compared to none a year ago.
Although the number of permits year to date is down from 1,591 at this time in 2007 to 1,491 this year, total valuation and total fees collected have increased:
