RE: |
Video installation in police patrols vehicles |
On March 25, 2008, the City Commission authorized the distribution of request for proposals (RFP) for video equipment for police department vehicles. This purchase was identified as being funded through the City’s equipment reserve fund. As the supporting memorandum outlined in March, the use of in-car video has became standard equipment in police patrol vehicles with most area law enforcement departments having this capability. The RFP responses have been reviewed by the department and the department’s recommendation is in keeping with the reserve fund’s allocated for this acquisition and installation. I recommend this purchase at this time based on the department’s research of the proposals received and their recommendation. This will be an important improvement to the work and safety of our police officers.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Approve the expenditure of a total of $245,000 for the acquisition and installation of in-car video and audio systems (38 vehicles) with the following vendors: Integrian, Inc. in the amount of $206,000 for in-car video/audio and wireless networking; Dataedge Solutions for storage components in the amount of $16,000; and TFM Communications in the amount of $22,000 for mobile data computers under the State of Kansas purchasing contract (equipment reserve fund).
