September 2, 2008 Agenda Item |
Please include the following item on the City Commission consent agenda for consideration at the September 2, 2008 meeting:
Description: Extension of Laundry/Cleaning Contract
The current contract for the laundering and dry cleaning of Lawrence Police Department uniform and non-uniform clothing by Scotch Fabric Care Services expires on September 1, 2008. Both the Police Department and Scotch Fabric Care Services are favorable to extending the contract under the same terms, conditions and prices, for another year.
Details: At its meeting held on August 24, 2004, the City Commission approved the bid from Scotch Fabric Care Services for the provision of laundry and dry cleaning services to the Lawrence Police Department for the period September 7, 2004 to September 4, 2006 for the estimated amount of $42,410 annually, based on a submitted schedule of prices for the various items of uniform and non-uniform clothing. At its meeting held on August 15, 2006, the City Commission approved the recommendation to extend that contract with Scotch Fabric Care Services, under the same terms, conditions, and prices, from September 5, 2006 to September 3, 2007, with option to renew to September 1, 2008. Scotch Fabric Care Services has now agreed to extend the current contract at the same price schedule for one more year. The Lawrence Police Department strongly favors the continuation of the contract, given the excellent service it has experienced with this vendor and the vendor’s willingness to retain the current price schedule despite sharp increases in costs. Also, it should be noted that Scotch Fabric Care Service is locally owned and the only laundry/dry cleaning service that offers seven locations for the dropping off and picking up of clothing…an important convenience for the officers.
Funding. The necessary funds to cover the costs of extending the contact are provided in the 2008 and 2009 operating budgets of the Police Department.
Action Request. Police Department staff requests approval from the City Commission to extend the current contract with Scotch Fabric Care Services, under the same terms, conditions, and prices, from September 2, 2008 to September 1, 2009.
