TRAFFIC ENGINEERING DIVISION

MEMORANDUM

TO:              Charles Soules, Director of Public Works

                   Shoeb Uddin, City Engineer

FROM:         David Woosley, Transportation/Traffic Engineer

DATE:           3 July 2008

SUBJECT:     Mid-block Pedestrian Signal – 900 block New Hampshire Street

At the City Commission meeting Tuesday evening, the Commission inquired as to where this project would rank on the Traffic Calming List.  In response to that inquiry, the following is provided:

1.      We do not have current speed data, but assuming the 85th percentile speed to be 25-30mph, 25-50 points would be allocated.

2.      We do not have current traffic volume data, but assuming a daily volume of 8000-10000, 27-33 points would be allocated.

3.      There were 5 reported crashes in this block during the 3-year period 2005-2007; 5 points allocated.

4.      There are sidewalks on both sides of the street; 0 points allocated.

5.      There are no school crosswalks in this block; 0 points allocated.

6.      There are 2-3 pedestrian generators at this location; 10-15 points allocated.

The estimated total number of points would be 67-103; this would place the project in the top five on the Traffic Calming List.

If additional information is needed, please let me know.
