ORDINANCE NO.  8294

 

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF LAWRENCE, KANSAS AMENDING CHAPTER V, ARTICLE 10 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF LAWRENCE, KANSAS, 2008 EDITION, AND AMENDMENTS THERETO, CONCERNING GROUND FAULT CIRCUIT INTERRUPTER RECEPTACLES FOR ALL KITCHEN COUNTERTOP AND BATHROOM RECEPTACLES

 

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF LAWRENCE, KANSAS:

 

Section 1.  Chapter V, Article 10, Section 5-1004.13 of the Code of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, 2008 Edition, and amendments thereto, is hereby amended to read as follows:

 

5-1004.13    Section 605.2 of the International Property Maintenance Code and the indicated   subsections   are amended to read as follows:

           

605.1  Installation.  All electrical equipment, wiring and appliances shall be properly installed and maintained in a safe and approved manner.

 

605.2  Receptacles.  Every habitable space in a dwelling shall contain at least two separate and remote receptacle outlets.  Every laundry shall contain at least one grounded-type receptacle or a receptacle with a ground fault circuit interrupter.  Every bathroom shall contain at least one receptacle.  All kitchen countertop receptacles and all bathroom receptacles are required to be a receptacle with a ground fault circuit interrupter.

           

605.3  Luminaires.  Every public hall, interior stairway, toilet room, kitchen, bathroom, laundry room, boiler room and furnace room shall contain at least one electric luminaire.

 

Section 2.  If any provision, clause, sentence or paragraph of this ordinance is found to unconstitutional or is otherwise held invalid by any court of competent jurisdiction, it shall not affect the validity of any remaining parts of this ordinance. 

 

Section 3.  This ordinance shall be in full force and take effect on and after its publication as provided by law.
