RE:	KLINK- Change Order No.1 and Final

Please include the referenced item on the City Commission consent agenda for consideration at the August 5, 2008 meeting:

Project Description.  State highways that enter the City limits are referred to as “Connecting Links”.  The State offers funding assistance up to a maximum of $200,000.   Funding is obtained through application.  The City applies annually.

Project Details.  The KLINK (Kansas Connecting Link) Program project for 2008 included Iowa Street from 23^rd Street to North of 31^st Street.  The original contract bid price amounted to $422,854.45.  Due to significant increases in asphalt oil prices, this project saw an overall increase in the asphalt cost of $54,932.25.  Other quantities in the project were reduced by approximately $35,036.58 leaving a net increase to the original contract of $19,895.67.

Project Funding.  KDOT participates in funding up to a maximum of $200,000 through the KLINK Program for major maintenance projects on state highways.  On April 15, 2008, Resolution No. 6763 authorized General Obligation Bonds in the amount of $450,000.  The City’s share will total $242,750.12.

Action Request.  Approve Change Order No. 1 to Asphalt Improvement Co. in the amount of $19,895.67.
