NOTICE OF SPECIAL QUESTION ELECTION

 

TO ALL THE QUALIFIED ELECTORS OF

THE CITY OF LAWRENCE, KANSAS:

 

            Notice is hereby given to the qualified electors of the City of Lawrence, Kansas (the “City”) that a special question election in the City of Lawrence, Kansas has been called and will be held in conjunction with the general election on the 4th day of November, 2008, for the purpose of submitting to the qualified electors of the City the following propositions:

 

Shall the following be adopted?

 

Shall the City of Lawrence, Kansas be authorized to impose a special purpose city retailers’ sales tax in the amount of one-half of one percent (0.5%) on retail sales consummated within the City of Lawrence, Kansas, for the purposes of  allocating three-tenths of one percent (0.3%) of said sales tax for improving and maintaining public streets and sidewalks, constructing and maintaining improvements to the storm water pump station and related storm water facilities in the City north of the Kansas River, constructing and maintaining recreational trails and paths, purchasing fire apparatus and related fire equipment, and such other related street, storm water, and recreational path infrastructure and  fire equipment purposes as may be in the best interest of the City and allocating two-tenths of one percent (0.2%) of said sales tax for operating the City Public Transit System in a system that may be merged with the University of Kansas Transit System, including purchasing and maintaining buses and other transit vehicles, transit facilities and equipment, and such other transit-related purposes as may be in the best interest of the City, the collection of such sales tax to commence on April 1, 2009 and shall terminate ten years after its commencement, all in accordance with the provisions of K.S.A. 12-187 et seq., and amendments thereto?
