RE:

Request to install FLASHING BEACONS at the intersection of Kasold Drive & Trail Road – TSC 6/2/08 Item 6

Background:  On June 2, 2008, the Traffic Safety Commission heard a request to install FLASHING BEACONS at the intersection of Kasold Drive & Trail Road.

The Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices permits the use of an Intersection Control Beacon where crash rates indicate the possibility of a special need.  During the period 2005-2007 there were five reported crashes; two (rear-end) are not unusual at a MULTI-WAY STOP, but the other three (right-angle) do not typically occur at a MULTI-WAY STOP.

The speed limit on both streets approaching the intersection is 30mph; Kasold Drive carries approximately 11,000 vehicles per day and Trail Road carries approximately 4,000 vehicles per day.

No one from the public spoke in favor of or against the request.

The TSC voted unanimously 8-0 to recommend denial of the request.
