RE:

Cemetery Improvements – Commission Agenda

The Parks & Recreation Department requests approval to bid the following items with the funding source being the Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund. This fund has moneys allocated to specific cemetery properties (Memorial Park $240,000 and Oak Hill $33,000). These funds must be used for the care and maintenance of these cemetery properties.

Item #1 – Approximately $70,000 of asphalt repair and overlay on the Memorial Park Cemetery roads. This project would be included in the Public Works Department phase 3 overlay project.

Item #2 – Approximately $65,000 to replace the cemetery backhoe. This piece of equipment has been identified by the Central Maintenance Garage as needing replacement. This is a specialized piece of equipment that is light enough to drive in the cemetery without making ruts or damaging grave markers and is equipped with a hoe designed for digging square graves. Therefore this is a one of a kind item in the City fleet. Other backhoes can work, but often cause a great deal more damage to the property.

Item #3 –  Approximately $11,000 to chip and seal roads at Oak Hill Cemetery. This project would also be bid in conjunction with other Public Works chip & seal projects.

After these improvements we would have fund balances of approximately $105,000 for Memorial Park and $22,000 for Oak Hill.
