RE:      Passenger Transfers

We are going to forward the following proposal to the Transit Commission at their next meeting, which should take place in June.  I would like to ask that you also forward this proposal to the Public Transit Advisory Committee at their next meeting. 

In order for all passengers to transfer from any bus to another more seamlessly, Transit staff would like to recommend that the Public Transit Advisory Committee and the Transit Commission approve the following:

1. Accept transfer slips from both systems on any bus (City & KU approval)
2. Accept “T” bus passes on any KU bus (KU approval)
3. Accept a KUID to get on any “T” bus (City approval)

By approving these changes, each system might experience a small decrease in fare box revenue.  However, ridership would increase, and both systems would benefit from the seamless transfer of passengers from one to the other. 

Items which require KU approval would need to be approved by the Transit Commission for recommendation to and approval by the Provost.  Items which require City approval would need to be approved by PTAC for recommendation to and approval by the Lawrence City Commission.
