HEAT Association

The Central Maintenance Garage has joined with Sedgwick County Fleet Maintenance, the City’s of Lenexa, Overland Park, Olathe, Salina, Gladstone and Lee’s Summit to form HEAT (Heartland Emergency Apparatus Technicians) Association www.heatevt.com/ . The purpose of this group is to bring affordable emergency vehicle training to our area. Before this group was formed the only training of this type was held in Florida, Texas, Colorado and Ohio.

The credentials of the officers and board members were approved and the association recognized by the Emergency Vehicle Technician Certification Commission http://www.evtcc.org/. The EVTCC also granted special testing dates and sights for training events. A four hour testing session is offered at each event. Tests are proctored by commission approved fire department safety officers, trainers or Chief’s.

These tests and the comparable ASE tests are required for EVT certification. We currently have five technicians certified in various areas. The goal of the garage is to have at least two master certified EVT technicians as training progresses.

The previous training events have been held in Wichita. The fall HEAT training event will be held at the Overland Park Fire Department Training Center.
