                   Assistant Director of Public Works

On May 6, 2008 the City of Lawrence opened proposals for the following:

City Bid No. B08039

Project 01-SR1-108(S) - Iowa Street (US-59/K-10), from 646.28’ North of 31st Street to Clinton Parkway/23rd Street

Milling, Overlay, Pavement Marking, Minor Geometric Improvements (KLINK)

VENDOR

TOTAL BID

Engineer’s Estimate

$439,613.00

Asphalt Improvement Co.

$422,854.45

LRM Industries, Inc.

$437,459.35

The KLINK project is an annual part of the pavement maintenance program and is for work on portions of state highways within the city. KDOT provides funding of up to $200,000 each year for the KLINK project. Originally, 23rd Street from Iowa to Louisiana was scheduled as the KLINK project for this year. However, with the closure of 19th and Louisiana this summer for reconstruction, staff determined the traffic impacts of simultaneous construction on 23rd Street would not be in the best interest of the traveling public. Approval was obtained from KDOT to reschedule the 23rd Street project and substitute Iowa south of 23rd Street.

The total amount budgeted for this year’s KLINK is $650,000, which includes the KDOT funding and $450,000 of city bond funding.

Recommendation Action:

Approve bid from Asphalt Improvement Co., Project No. 01-SR1-108(S) in the amount of $422,854.45 provided the contractor can meet the terms established in the contract documents.
