RE:	Request for MID-BLOCK MARKED CROSSWALK on Naismith Drive between 18^th Street & 19^th Street

Background: On March 3, 2008, the Traffic Safety Commission heard a request from the University of Kansas to establish a MID-BLOCK MARKED PEDESTRIAN CROSSWALK on Naismith Drive between 18^th Street & 19^th Street. This location is not on the campus.

Jim Modig, representing the University of Kansas, spoke in favor of the request, noting that this was a recommendation of the Campus Safety Advisory Board and that student fees would pay for all construction costs. No one from the public spoke in opposition to the request.

The TSC voted 5-2 recommending approval of the request. Those voting against the recommendation felt that it wouldn’t solve the problem and that there would be too many crosswalks in the area.
