TIRE SHOP CONSTRUCTION –
PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT – #B08033
Public
works/Central Maintenance requested bids for a 60’ X 50’ steel building to be
used as a tire shop. The present tire shop was built around 1980 for tire
storage. The north section was added in 1989. The original building is pole
barn type construction. As the fleet grew the entire tire operation was moved
to the site, although the building was never big enough to bring vehicles
inside for tire repair. The technicians have to raise vehicles and remove tires
and wheels outside in all weather conditions. The roof was sealed in 2000 and
resealed in 2005 to stop leaks, but the micro burst of 2006 damaged the roof
and caused further leaks. Some of the leaking areas are molding due to the
constant wet condition. This purchase was budgeted in the 2008 budgeting
process.
