Please include the following items on the City Commission agenda for consideration at the April 29th meeting:

Landmark Nomination of 805 Ohio Street and 934 West 21st Street to the Lawrence Register of Historic Places

At their meeting on October 18, 2007, the Lawrence Historic Resources Commission (HRC) passed Resolution 2007-02 and 2007-03 recommending designation of 805 Ohio Street and 934 West 21st Street, as a Landmarks on the Lawrence Register of Historic Places.

Project Status.  Chapter 22 of the Code of the City of Lawrence requires the City Commission to consider the application of a landmark nomination at a public hearing.  The public hearing may be during a regularly scheduled meeting.  The City Commission may approve an ordinance designating a nominated structure as a landmark in accordance with the findings of the HRC.

If the City Commission denies the nomination, subsequent nomination attempts shall not occur within three years, or without a change of ownership of the property, whichever occurs first.

Action Request.  Planning staff requests the City Commission hold a public hearing and direct staff to draft ordinances for landmark designation for 805 Ohio Street and 934 West 21st Street, if appropriate.
