ITEM NO. 1:         Action summary

Commissioner Sizemore stated Action Summaries from the previous September 20th, 2007 would be deferred until the October 18thth, 2007 meeting.

 

ACTION TAKEN

Motioned by Commissioner Antle, seconded by Commissioner Veatch, to approve the August 3rd, 2007 Action Summary.

 

          Motion carried unanimously, 6-0

 

Motioned by Commissioner Veatch, seconded by Commissioner Antle, to approve the August 16th, 2007 Action Summary with the following modifications:

 

Commissioner Marvin noted one change on page 3.

 

          Motion carried unanimously, 6-0

 

ITEM NO. 2:         CoMMUNICATIONS

a)  Letter from Ms. KT Walsh, 732 Rhode Island

Resolutions for items 3 and 4 should the Commission decide to nominate the properties to the Lawrence Register.

 

b) No declaration of abstentions from specific agenda items by Commissioners.

 

                   Ms. Braddock Zollner commented on environs review and recited the purpose of the National law, State law, and local Lawrence law, and read the Standards for Evaluation.

 

ITEM NO. 3:        L-08-01-07        Public hearing for consideration of placing the structure located at 805 Ohio Street (the Jacob House Residence) on the Lawrence Register of Historic Places. Submitted by Kenneth Riedemann, the property owner of record. Adopt resolution recommending listing 805 Ohio Street to the Lawrence Register of Historic Places and its associated environs definition, if appropriate. 

 

STAFF PRESENTATION

                   Ms. Braddock Zollner presented the item.

 

Commissioner Antle asked if all the properties in the area were on the National and State registers.

 

Ms. Braddock Zollner said yes.

 

APPLICANT PRESENTATION

Dan Riedemann, owner and applicant, said the property speaks for itself and deserved to be on the Lawrence Register of Historic Places.

 

PUBLIC COMMENT

No member of public spoke on this item.

 

COMMISSION DISCUSSION

Commissioner Meyer said the Commission had talked about the property fairly recently and was familiar with it. 

 

Ms. Braddock Zollner said placing the property on the Lawrence Register of Historic Places was a condition of a Special Use Permit of three months ago.

 

Commissioner Antle stated the property was the first hospital in Lawrence, and from a historical point of view the property was an important part of Lawrence.

 

ACTION TAKEN

Motioned by Commissioner Wiechert, seconded by Commissioner Veatch, to approve placing the structure located at 805 Ohio Street (the Jacob House Residence) on the Lawrence Register of Historic Places.

 

                             Motion carried unanimously, 6-0.

 

Motioned by Commissioner Veatch, seconded by Commissioner Wiechert, to adopt the environs definition as detailed in the Staff Report.

                      

                             Motion carried unanimously, 6-0.
