RE:	April 1, 2008 Consent Agenda Item Project No. 21-BS1-607(C) Ohio Street, 6^th Street to 8^th Street, Brick Street Reconstruction Resolution 6761 Authorizing Issuance of General Obligation Bonds

Please include the following item on the City Commission consent agenda for consideration at the April 1, 2008 meeting:

RESOLUTION 6761 - A RESOLUTION ORDERING THE IMPROVEMENT AND AUTHORIZING THE ISSUANCE OF GENERAL OBLIGATION BONDS FOR CERTAIN MAIN TRAFFICWAY IMPROVEMENTS WITHIN THE CITY OF LAWRENCE, KANSAS.

Project History/Status. The City received a grant from the KDOT Transportation Enhancement Program for the reconstruction of Ohio Street from 6^th Street to 8^th Street. The project includes the restoration of the pavement to brick with limestone curbs. On February 12, 2008 the city opened bids and on March 4, 2008 the City Commission awarded the bid to GSR Construction in an amount of $669,988.92.

The project was/is included in the City’s 2008 CIP. Funding is an 80%/20% split (KDOT, $535,991.14; City, $133,997.78). The city will need to issue bonds for its share of this funding split/expense.

Staff and the contractor have met with the neighborhood to discuss the project. GSR Construction expects to begin work the first week of April 2008.

Action Request. Approve Resolution 6761 ordering the improvement and authorizing the issuance of General Obligation Bonds.
