RE:

Authorization to Purchase Solar Bee Finished Water Storage Tank Mixer from Utility Service Co. for $43,200

Please consider the following item on the City Commission agenda for the March 25, 2008 meeting:

Request authorization to purchase a Solar Bee Model No. SB1250V12PW as a sole source purchase to Utility Service Company for $43,200 for complete installation at the 19th & Kasold 1.5 MG above ground storage tank.

Project Background

Previous water quality monitoring reflects that extended water age results in a deterioration of chlorine residual in the tank at 19th and Kasold.  Customer complaints have been received in this area corresponding to documented water quality changes that are occurring in the tank.  This tank also serves RWD#5 which has also expressed concerns with reduced chlorine residual at the point of delivery to their system.

Project Status/ Details

Solar Bee is the only manufacturer who constructs this type of solar powered recirculating tank mixer (see sole source letter from Solar Bee).  This authorization will provide a complete installation and setup necessary to install the tank mixer at 19th & Kasold water storage tankUtility Service Company is the only installation contractor authorized by Solar Bee to install this solar powered mixing device.

Project Funding

Funding for this project is through the Kaw Water Treatment Plant Budget account 501-7220-582-3309. This expense was budgeted as part of the planned water system improvements.

Action Request

Purchase order authorization to Utility Service Company in the amount of $43,200 for installation of the Solar Bee tank mixer at the 19th & Kasold  storage tank.
