RE: |
Tire Shop |
Please include the following information on the consent agenda for the City Commission meeting of March 25, 2008.
Background The present tire shop was built around 1980 for tire storage. The north section was added in 1989. The original building is pole barn type construction. As the fleet grew the entire tire operation was moved to the site, although the building was never big enough to bring vehicles inside for tire repair. The technicians have to raise vehicles and remove tires and wheels outside in all weather conditions. The roof was sealed in 2000 and resealed in 2005 to stop leaks, but the micro burst of 2006 damaged the roof and caused further leaks. Some of the leaking areas are molding due to the constant wet condition.
I have attached a series of photos showing some of the problem areas.
Project Status / Details: The site plan and specifications are complete. A pre-bid meeting will be set to answer questions and show the site to contractors.
Project Funding: The actual building cost would be around $80,000. Completing concrete and electrical work should bring the project in under $150,000. The Central Maintenance Garage has a fund balance forward sufficient to re-construct this facility. This project was approved in the 2008 budget process.
Recommendation Central Maintenance staff request approval from the City Commission to set a bid opening date of April 15, 2008 for the tire shop construction project.
