RE:

Major Thoroughfares Map modifications for T2030

One of the main functions of the Major Thoroughfares Map (MTM) is to identify the existing and future roadway network as well as define its function so that progressive planning can occur in an efficient manner. The MTM also provides valuable information and guidance to decision makers regarding the future vision of the transportation network.

The attached table outlines the changes made to the 2030 Proposed Thoroughfares Map (Figure 6.9), which focuses on the urban growth area, located in Chapter 6 of Transportation 2030 (T2030).  The Major Thoroughfares Map in Transportation 2025 was used as the basis to identify the recommended changes.  The table contains information about the road and justification for the modifications made. The modifications primarily consisted of changing the functional classification of a roadway due to future conditions and projects anticipated for the Lawrence-Douglas County transportation network.

Significant changes include:

¨        Extending George Williams Way to N 1750 Road and changing functional classification to Collector

¨        Moving the Eastern Connector alignment eastward to connect to the proposed SLT/K-10 connection

¨        Changing N 1800/Lakeview Road functional classification to Principal Arterial

¨        Changing Franklin Road functional classification to Minor Arterial

¨        Changing N 1750 Road functional classification to Principal Arterial to account for Peterson Road not being a through street.

Recommendations were determined by a subcommittee of the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) that reviewed each road segment. The changes were then reviewed and recommended for MPO approval by the Technical Advisory Committee and T2030 Committee on January 18, 2008.
