Enhancement Program Project
- Rehabilitation of historic transportation
facility (Old West Lawrence)
- Selected by KDOT in 2005 to be funded for
construction in 2008
- Funding is 80%/20% (KDOT/City)
- Est. Cost $670,000 ($536,000/$134,000)
Project Timeline
- Utility relocation and storm sewer replacement
at 7th & Ohio St. (February/March 2008)
- Pre-construction meeting with neighborhood
(March 2008)
- Begin Construction (April 2008)
- Two Stages of Construction (approx. 6 months
total)
- 6th to 7th St.
- 7th to 8th St.
- End Construction (Late Summer/Early Fall 2008)
Construction Details
- Remove existing asphalt overlay
- Remove and salvage existing layers of brick
(under current asphalt)
- Construct new roadway with concrete base and
reused brick
- Remove, clean, and replace existing stone curbing
and hitching posts
Goals
- Construct a long lasting roadway
- Provide an aesthetically pleasing street to
neighborhood
- Enhance the historical appeal of Lawrence
