RE: Lawrence Freenet BusQuest Proposal Update

As you are aware, the City is in receipt of a proposal entitled “BusQuest” from Lawrence Freenet. The project would offer wireless connectivity, route planning and bus tracking to transit system patrons utilizing a proposed revenue stream from advertising on transit buses and shelters.

City staff met with Joshua Montgomery of Freenet and others related to the project in early January. Based on that meeting and some recent discussions with parties that may impact the original proposal, Mr. Montgomery is planning on submitting an updated proposal in one to two months.

Additionally, Cliff Galante has been in contact with Google concerning online transit route planning. We understand that Mr. Montgomery has also met with Google.
