RE:	Northern Flyer Alliance Resolution of Support

At the Study Session on February 14, the City Commission met with representatives from the Northern Flyer Alliance. The Northern Flyer Alliance is a group working to seeking expanded Amtrak rail service from Oklahoma City north to Kansas City. This proposed route would also come through Lawrence and expand the community’s current rail options to the south.

At the Study Session, the Commission learned more about the Alliance and its activities and how the proposed enhanced rail service may impact the City of Lawrence. The Alliance representatives requested that the City of Lawrence express its support for the Northern Flyer Alliance and the expanded route by the passage of a resolution. Several communities along the proposed route have passed similar resolutions of support.

Attached is a draft resolution for the City Commission’s consideration.

City Commission Action Requested: Approve the resolution of support for the Northern Flyer Alliance and expanded rail service through the City of Lawrence.
