Proclamation

Lawrence, Kansas

WHEREAS:       The “Think Pink” initiative is a global, unified effort to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities, and beyond and has grown to over six hundred participating schools nationwide in its second year of existence; and

WHEREAS:       Breast Cancer incidence rates have declined by three and a half percent each year since 2001; and

WHEREAS:       It is estimated that in 2008, there will be 240,510 new cases of breast cancer diagnosed in the United States alone; and

WHEREAS:       Kansas Women’s Basketball and Kansas Athletics will work to raise awareness and funds for the fight against breast cancer when it participates in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association “Think Pink” initiative on Sunday, February 17;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Sue Hack, Mayor of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, do hereby proclaim February 17, 2008 to be

“THINK PINK DAY”.
