Meeting

Deb Taylor called the meeting to order at approximately 6:00 p.m. in the Heritage Room at Plymouth Congregational Church, 925 Vermont. Minutes of the July 11, 2007 meeting were read. Deb made and Baha seconded a motion to accept them. The minutes were approved on a voice vote. 

 

Deb suggested that Board Members try to visit the Chamber-sponsored "Get Downtown" event to see if incorporating an Alliance-sponsored Diversity Celebration could work well with Get Downtown. Board Members discussed numerous ways to combine these events.

 

Deb announced that the Hispanic Community Educational Awareness event will be on Nov 11 after Spanish Mass at St John's. She encouraged Board Members to attend. Mike Monroe discussed police issues that will possibly be covered at the event. The purpose of the event is to get the Lawrence Police Dept together with the Hispanic community so that the two groups can better understand and learn from each other. The Board threw out numerous ideas concerning the event, such as preparing membership cards for members of the Hispanic community, inviting law enforcement from Baldwin and Eudora, and speaking with the Douglas County Sheriff's Dept.

 

Appointments for half of the Board expire in November. Robbie Derritt, Bob Hubert, and Baha Safadi requested to stay on the Board for another term. Anne is not able to stay on the board due to scheduling conflicts. 

 

Adjournment

Bruce made and Robbie seconded a motion to adjourn the meeting at approximately 7:25 p.m. The motion was approved on a voice vote.
