Please include the following item on the City Commission consent agenda for consideration at the December 18, 2007 meeting:

Project Description.

The major item of this project is the restoration of existing brick surfacing of Ohio Street (from 6^th to 8^th). The street is currently a brick street with asphalt overlay. The proposed improvements will consist of removal of asphalt surfacing, cleaning and salvaging existing bricks and restoration of the historic Brick Street.

Project Status.

This project is scheduled for Bid Letting in February, 2008. The construction will begin in late spring of 2008. It is expected that construction will be completed by late August, 2008.

Project Funding. 

The estimated total project cost is approximately $979,900.00. This project is an 80/20 funded project through the Transportation Enhancement Program administered by KDOT. The City will be responsible for 20 percent of the project cost. Construction Administration services will be provided by the City Staff. The cost of Construction Administration services, estimated at $55,530.00, will be considered towards the city’s share of 20 percent of the project cost. The City Commission passed Resolution 6617 in October, 2005 in support of the funding for this project.

Action Request.

Authorize the Mayor to sign the Construction Administration Agreement with KDOT for Ohio Street Brick Restoration project (City Project No. 21-BS1-607(C); KDOT Project No. 23 TE – 0303 – 01)
