On October 30, 2007,  the City of Lawrence opened proposals for the following:  

Bid#07068 – 2008 Water Treatment Chemicals – Utilities Department

Please see attached bid tab.

Utilities Department requested bids for water treatment chemicals for 2008.  All were based on the low bid including shipping.  The low bid from Ciba Specialties for polymer at the Kaw Plant and Clinton Plant have not been tested or approved.  The bid required specific chemicals that have been tested and approved.  Nalco Chemical Company has told us that they cannot meet the price they bid; $1090.00 per ton for polymer at the Clinton Plant.  They did not realize that they were expected to offload the polymer into the upstairs tanks at Clinton Plant and have no way of doing so from the totes that are unloaded.  We recommend purchasing these chemicals from the next low bidder, GS Robins for the Kaw Plant and Clinton Plant.    

Recommendation Action:

Approve recommended bids as marked (*), (Utilities/Chemicals Fund)
