Proclamation

Lawrence, Kansas

WHEREAS:      The City of Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department along with the Lawrence Rotary International clubs celebrate its annual fall open house at the Lawrence Rotary Arboretum; and

WHEREAS:      Citizens of Lawrence may enjoy the scenic beauty of the arboretum, which was established to commemorate the 100 years of Rotary International worldwide by the three Lawrence Rotary chapters in 2005, strolling through the area, taking in its natural beauty; and

WHEREAS:      Citizens may learn new techniques in gardening through the Xeriscape Garden, which was funded through the City of Lawrence Utilities Department, and learn about the variety of trees found throughout the arboretum; and

WHEREAS:      Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department commends all volunteers who have assisted in the area’s development from its inception to future development/maintenance of the area; and

WHEREAS: Lawrence Parks and Recreation appreciates support for the water conservation efforts of the Xeriscape Garden, which highlights native and adaptive planting and preserves wildflowers while teaching individuals the principles of Xeriscaping;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Sue Hack, Mayor of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, do hereby proclaim Saturday, September 29, 2007, to be:

“EXPERIENCE THE ROTARY ARBORETUM DAY”
