Rob,

It is very important to my business to be able to utilize the parking on Wisconsin Street.  It was never an issue when I purchased the property, and more importantly no one has ever approached me to find an amiable, organized method to help address this concern without losing the street-side parking.  We designed the building assuming that we could park on both sides of the street.  In fact, we were counting on it.  As you can see I do not have adequate parking for a business with my volume, and it is vital to preserve as much parking as possible.

Here is the information you requested:

1)       What was the City’s position on this matter (if any) when you bought the site prior to construction?

1.  This problem was not addressed prior to the purchase of the property.  In addition, it was brought to our attention by the City that is was acceptable to use Wisconsin Street for parking with no restrictions.

2)       Have you had any issues with cars being hit or other traffic issues prior to this time?

2. We have not had any issues about accidents, damages, restricted flow of traffic, etc.  We had been asked by the City of Lawrence Police to make sure that we do not park un-registered (cars without license plates), on Wisconsin.  We immediately recognized the request.

3)       Who is generating the request?  Is it exclusively the owner of the College Motel?

I did attend the Traffic Safety Committee meeting.  I was late and missed the discussion.  They allowed me to present my position, but I did not fight back as much as I could have.  I did notify them of my willingness to help alleviate the concern or to help rectify the problem.

I thank you for your help, guidance, and simpathy towards business owners like myself here in Lawrence, Kansas.  I feel that persons with vision like yourself will help our community remove itself from this state of isolation that we are currently experiencing.

Sincerely,
